You are a very solid and methodical teacher...and you showed great care with everybody. I have been able to use some of the techniques and figures I learned, successfully, and some others do need practice. First of all they need some help to come back into memory when in the middle of a dance. I love the Waltz. Up to now I mostly did spinning and had a few figures. This workshop added a whole other repertoire to comfortably mix in, and it fostered confidence to make the Waltz the one couple dance I really do feel comfortable leading. I often get good feedback from my dance partners, a sense that they enjoy dancing with me. Thank you so much for the waltz DVDs!

Having taken several single lessons and three or four series of lessons with Rich, I can testify to his excellence as a waltz teacher. From the very beginning I, like all the other students in the class, learned moves that I could put to use on the dance floor immediately -- dancing in closed position, leading my partner into inside turns or outside turns, and into the cuddle or sweetheart position plus a butterfly whirl or two from either, and more. In all the classes ever since I've been practicing the moves I've learned, getting them into my "muscle memory" as Rich says, learning more, and helping others in class to learn, in the process developing the skill that enables me to share a delightful waltz and all the warm feelings therein and thereafter with just about anyone.

For me, so far, waltz class just doesn't get old. I'm always learning new things from Rich or from feedback from my partners, or discovering them on my own, or just enjoying the practice with my partner, step after step. As many have said, there's magic in the waltz, so if you get a chance to study with Rich, take it!

Very clear teaching. Rich was well prepared and did a good job of introducing each move, then practicing it, then incorporating it into real dancing. I've used the figures I learned in several situations since, all to good effect. These are some lovely, graceful moves (when done with someone who knows how to lead them!) that float above the general level of waltzing I see in Contra and English dancing. I can easily transfer them to other styles such as cajun/zydeco, which gives me great pleasure because that's what I'm into these days. Rich's workshops are always fun. He packs a lot into a short amount of time, and knows how to review and build on the moves to make dancers own what they've been taught.

Definitely your waltz workshops have improved our dancing style! We learned several new moves that we have included in our 'repertoire'. It always helps to expand the possibilities of adding variety to our regular waltzes. I for one find your teaching style to be clear and thorough, including plenty of time for practice. Since John is my regular partner, the workshops give me a chance to learn through practicing with other partners, because everyone does things a bit differently. Of course everything improves with practice, and we have certain 'favorite' figures that we do more often. There are others that we would need a 'refresher' on, and I think it would be helpful to have the video for reference. Feel free to use any comments and my first name if you want to, but anyway thanks for offering the workshops, I think they're a service to the dance community. Joe and I have taken at least 4 of Rich's waltz workshops. We both were inexperienced dancers when we took the first one several years ago. We had fun and improved our dancing after each one, and we think we enjoyed them even more as we became more experienced dancers. The workshops gave us an opportunity to improve basic dancing skills like leading and following and to concentrate on learning new figures that add variety to our dancing. The workshops allowed us to practice the figures so that we can perform them without thinking - that's when it really gets fun, because you can be more creative about the dance. In the workshops we learned how to put the figures together in different ways and we use what we have learned at every dance we go to. One of the big benefits that Joe found is that he can use Rich's figures to avoid other dancers on the dance floor without stopping the flow of the dance. Joe and I both really enjoy the smoothness and grace of the waltz and the workshops have increased our skill and thus our enjoyment of waltzing. Even if your dancing goal isn't necessarily about waltzing, the figures and techniques Rich teaches at the workshop are useful for other casual, free-moving types of dance.
